Seventeen lawyers leave Miguel Neto to start new São Paulo firm

Four partners and 13 lawyers have left Brazil’s Miguel Neto Advogados to open a corporate, M&A and tax-focused firm in São Paulo.

Farroco Abreu Guarnieri Zotelli Advogados opened its doors on 10 July. The new firm counts six partners and 11 associates.

The four name partners were previously partners at Miguel Neto. Antonio Farroco and Bruno Guarnieri will lead the new firm’s corporate and M&A practice, while colleagues José Mauricio Abreu and Valeria Zotelli head the tax department.

Two of the associates joining from Miguel Neto have also been made partners. Vanessa Silveira is a corporate lawyer who specialises in contract negotiations, while José Dumont adds to the tax and wealth-planning groups.

Farroco says he and his team decided to leave Miguel Neto due to differences over the business model followed by the firm. He is keen for artificial intelligence to play a bigger role in legal work done by his team. “It is the human component of decision making that will make the difference,” he says. “Competent legal counsel must add value to the client, and it must be precise, efficient and decisive,” he adds.

Fellow partner Abreu says the firm aims to be a one-stop shop for corporate law. “We mainly address general corporate, contract, tax and M&A work, but we cover other areas too, including labour, litigation and regulatory law,” he clarifies.

Latin Lawyer contacted Miguel Neto Advogados for comment, but it did not reply prior to publication. The firm is visible on M&A transactions in the agribusiness and retail sectors. Its website lists six partners.
